Verb - 5 Thể

Tiếng Việt
Chung chung, động từ là loại từ chỉ hành động. Thí dụ, "Tôi đi," đi là động từ. Anh đi, Tôi đi, Nó đi; Mai mốt mày đi, Hôm qua chúng đi: động từ đi không thay đổi.

English
In English, động từ ở 1 trong 5 thể (hình dạng) tuỳ theo cách dùng trong câu.



1. Infinitive: Nguyên thể
Động từ có to đứng trước như: to be, to have, to talk. Được dùng như danh từ, tĩnh từ hay trạng từ. Infinitive không được dùng như động từ.
1. To talk is the only thing she wants
2. She always brings a book to read.

2. Simple Present: Hiện tại
3. Simple Past: Quá khứ

4. Past Participle: Quá khứ phân từ
Động từ thường nối bởi ED hoặc đặc trưng với các irregular verbs.
Guests were welcomed to the living room.
They were taught a lesson.

5. Present Participle: Hiện tại phân từ
Động từ nối bởi ING, được dùng diễn tả đang diễn tiến.
I am eating.
